Elicit is an OpenAI GPT-3 powered AI (Artificial Intelligence) research assistant that automates parts of researchers’ workflows by showing relevant papers and summaries of key information.

Features :

  • A list of papers will be listed as an answer to your research question. You can also run Elicit on your own paper by uploading it in a PDF format.
  • Elicit will provide you with a summary of top papers. P.S. this is a Beta version (i.e., it is not always accurate).
  • You can provide keywords and ask Elicit to search for articles in which its abstracts contain, or do not contain, these keywords.
  • You can choose to
    • Sort papers by: Year of publication, Number of Citations, Paper title (alphabetically), Abstract Summary (alphabetically)
    • The study type: Review, Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis, Longitudinal, Randomized Controlled trial
    • Only show papers that are available with a PDF.
    • Add one or more of the following information about all papers: Abstract summary, intervention, outcomes measures and number of participants.
  • You can ask questions about the paper.
  • You can export the result in a CSV file.

Pros & Cons :

  • Elicit can be used to answer research questions and help you with brainstorming, summarization, and text classification.
  • Elicit works better for some questions and domains than others, especially with empirical research.
  • Elicit does not yet know how to evaluate whether one paper is more trustworthy than another (except by giving you some pointers, like citation count, journal, etc.)

Remarks :

  • Always read original articles and make notes; this tool is meant to speed up academic work but not replace it.
