On 15 June 2023, the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office for the Arab States in Beirut and the Arab Thought Foundation (ATF) jointly launched the "Repository of Promising Teaching and Learning Practices" at UNESCO Beirut, marking a significant milestone in their decade-long partnership known as "Tarbiyah21" or Partnership for Arab Educational Development.
Dr. Helena Saade, Cheffe de projets à l’UNTE et consultante auprès de l’UNESCO, a joué un rôle central dans cette réalisation en fournissant des services de traduction et d’édition pour le référentiel.
The "Repository of Promising Teaching and Learning Practices" represents one of the most remarkable outputs of the Tarbiyah21 project, highlighting ATF and UNESCO Beirut's continuous efforts in supporting teachers and enhancing their competencies. Through their collaboration, the two organizations have been working tirelessly to support Arab countries in implementing the 2030 Education Agenda, which aims to provide inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
This repository features 130 templates that showcase innovative and promising teaching and learning practices, generously contributed by different categories of stakeholders, including reflective practitioners sharing their self-reported experiences. Out of 300 submissions received by UNESCO - Beirut, the templates were carefully selected and categorized based on various axes, encompassing topics such as Quality Teaching and Learning (with several sub-topics encompassing teacher roles in Curriculum, Learner-centred teaching methodologies, Skills development, Social and Emotional Learning/SEL, Education for sustainable Development (ESD)/Greening Education, Learning assessment and other, such as whole-school approaches (WSA). Most importantly, it tackled Digital Transformation/ICT in Education, Teacher Professional Development, Collaborations and Partnerships, and Educational Research.
Au cours de la cérémonie, un autre résultat du projet “Tarbiyah21” a été présenté – le guide de l’enseignant. Ce dernier regroupe les importantes leçons apprises dans le contexte de la pandémie de COVID-19 et fournit des lignes directrices pour améliorer les performances des enseignants grâce à des formations, des ressources et des moyens de soutien.
Helena Saadeh's expertise in education and dedication have played a vital role in shaping the Repository, as her contributions in translation and editing have facilitated broader access to these valuable resources. The templates shared in the repository stand as a testament to the immense innovative potential held by teachers and other stakeholders in the Arab Region. Moreover, they serve as an invitation to further exchange and sharing of best practices, as well as policy dialogues aimed at scaling up such initiatives in a meaningful and sustainable manner.

During the ceremony, another notable outcome of the “Tarbiyah21” project was presented – the Teacher Guidance Notes. These notes encompassed important lessons learned in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and provided guidelines for improving teachers’ performance through appropriate training, resources, and incentives.
