The New Educational Technologies Unit (UNTE) team participated in the Conference on "Technology and Innovation in the Future of Education" held Thursday 02 March 2023 at François S. Bassil Auditorium, Innovation and Sports Campus to explore how technology can shape the future of education and what it will look like 30 years from now.
This event, targeting the higher education community and its partners, aims to envision a future of innovation and growth using the latest technology. It explored how universities can sustainably put the wheels of digital transformation into motion; how to build meaningful connections among and between students and teachers in a hybrid world; and how administrators can realize greater efficiencies through modern student information systems.
The keynote speeches delivered during the event focused on topics such as:
- New technologies, such as VR and the metaverse, connecting learners and teachers in the future
- Kickstarting university innovation engines to make the most of technological opportunities
- Building communities online with equity and care: the case of AI
- Developing a Student Information System that helps USJ students to cope with Lebanon's financial collapse while future-proofing the institution against upcoming challenges in the sector.
In his keynote address, Rector of USJ Reverend Father Salim Daccache praised the efforts of the UNTE in providing a valuable service to students, teachers, and the USJ community. He said “our gathering to launch the new student Information system developed by Lebanese Tech CME Offshore Lebanon is an example of our commitment to advancing teaching and learning through technology, we fostered a culture of innovation and experimentation, encouraging faculty and staff to explore new ways of using technology to support teaching and learning and for that a Unit dedicated to New Educational Technologies was created since 2005 to ensure monitoring, follow new developments, train teachers”.
The conference outlined the ways in which the use of new technologies can help educators foster a more active learning environment for their students, and how the integration of interactive technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence can help to create a more immersive learning experience and promote critical thinking.
At the end of the conference, a short video showcasing the new Student Information System produced by CME in collaboration with USJ was displayed.
