The Unit of New Educational Technology (UNTE) Chief Wadad Wazen Gergy participated, in her capacity as member of digital expert committee, in the launch of the five-year plan for Higher Education in Lebanon 2023-2027 at a ceremony celebrating the International Day for Education at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with UNESCO.
The plan is aimed at saving the educational sector in Lebanon, improving the quality of Higher Education in the country and making it more accessible to all. Key technology-related topics in the strategic pillars of the plan focused on developing a comprehensive higher education management information system (HEMIS) to foster informed decision-making processes, developing a Student Record System (SRS), establishing Centers for Improvement and Development in Teaching and Learning in HE institutions and embracing the opportunities of digital internationalization.
The plan also highlighted Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), pledging to ensure equity of access to and participation in higher education, and that the values of EDI are mainstreamed, in addition to setting a framework and regulations to ensure equality and justice in terms of parity in equity of access, participation, diversity and inclusion.
USJ recognizes the need to invest heavily in education in order to strengthen human capital, foster social mobility, and prepare students for the economic growth and stability of the nation. To accomplish this, higher education institutions are pivotal in improving governance and upholding the right of students to quality education, allowing them to realize their goals and become socially involved agents of change.
