The Conference of Rectors of the Middle East Region (CONFREMO) held its 14th General Assembly on November 17, 2022, at La Sagesse University in Beirut. The event, co-organized by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie AUF, attracted Rectors of Universities and Academics from Higher Education Institutions in Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as mandated representatives from universities in Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, and Cyprus.
As part of the conference, Mrs Wadad Wazen Gergy, Head of the New Educational Technologies Unit at University Saint Joseph of Beirut, provided her expertise in digital governance in the service of sustainable development objectives. During her intervention, the UNTE head raised several points highlighting the importance of digital technology in educational resilience and in promoting the educational inclusion of marginalized populations in the educational processes in order to create resilient and inclusive sustainable university education systems.
Several workshops took place during the first and second day around many themes with the most common being the consequences of the artificial intelligence revolution, the production of knowledge in French, digital governance and leadership.
The conference was an excellent opportunity to review the previous year's activities (2021-2022) and determine future work streams. Following the decision of the General Assembly, the next CONFREMO will be held at Qatar University, during the last quarter of 2023.
