⚠ Attention: video recording with PowerPoint does not work in the online version. For MAC users, we suggest using QuickTime Player (see this tutorial for more details)
PowerPoint is not the best format to communicate complex information. Alternatively, it is more efficient to create a video PowerPoint presentation to boost your audience engagement.
Narrated presentations simultaneously provide both aural and visual content and are therefore more effective. Turning your PowerPoint presentation into a video with your narration will allow your students to watch it as if you were presenting it in front of them.
Note: Make sure Office 365 is installed on the computer by opening a PPT file and then by clicking on File → Account
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Prepare your content: Ask yourself the right questions before you start: what is the main information to be communicated? Do I want to make a video where people see me? A video with audio?
- Write a script that you can follow while recording the voiceover. Practice the presentation a few times to make your voiceover flow smoothly.
- Prepare your recording environment: make sure you choose a quiet, well-lit room. Test your computer audio. Don't forget to turn off your laptop.
- Remember to cut your training into sequences so that you don't have to re-record everything in the event of a problem.
- Take your time when explaining: pause when you transition from idea to idea. Learners will have time to take notes or assimilate the content.
- Images are incredibly important in capturing audience attention. Use an attractive image to make your videos more visible and to create your own identity: consider adding a beginning and end credits, a logo...
NOTE: It is highly recommended to limit your PowerPoint files to 10 slides. The recording of these files should not exceed 15 to 20min. The resulting video will be small in size allowing you to easily share it on Moodle, and allow students to download faster. If you have longer presentations, consider breaking them into smaller files.
