Teams | practices to adopt

Important Features

General – Display language Choose the preferred display language (French, Arabic, English, Spanish…)
General – Multiple Connections Connect to your Teams space at the same time from different devices or different applications (Desktop app, of Web (Chrome, Safari, Edge), of the mobile phone application). For example, if there is a problem with one device, or to be able to follow chat messages on one device and screen sharing on another, or to answer messages and calls while you are on the move.)
Creating a team (Team) – Same group Create a team (Team) from an existing team to keep the same structure (channels), the same members and or the same settings, but it is not possible to import the files (hence the interest to share resources in their own Moodle space).
Creating a team (Team) – Large group In case of large group, send students (USJ mail) the team link or generate a code and share it with students for self-registration. Do not forget for the first option to validate the “Pending Requests“. You can use an alias to register students (USJ account) massively.
Presentation – Channels Divide the content into channels for better navigation in space (a channel can correspond to a chapter, a course session, etc.)
Presentation – “Show/Hide” Lighten Teams home page hiding unused spaces: use “Show/Hide“ option
Presentation – Title Name the TEAM team as “CodeECTS-IntituléUE” to allow students to identify it more easily (same title as on the IS, on Moodle, etc.)
Presentation – Customizing Visually customize the UE by adding an image, etc.
Presentation – Link with Moodle Link Teams space to EU Moodle space by customizing a tab of your team and adding the direct link to your Moodle space. To do this, simply add the Website application in a new tab of the channel, name it and add the URL link. (Video Tutorial)
Overview – Resource Visibility To make a resource (presentation, report..) more visible, make it available as a tab in your team (Team) by adding it to the team files (Team), and choosing “Make a tab” in the document options.
Communication – Sending a message Use the @ symbol in a message to send a notification to one or several members of your TEAM and invite them to view your message. @General sends a notification to the whole class. With @member, the notification will be received by a specific member. With @Channel, the notification will be received by channel members. With @tag, the notification will be received by members of that tag.
Communication – Announcement Make an announcement (Announcement) that stands out from the rest of the conversations and allows you to share personalized, impactful information using a background image.
Communication – Save important messages Save important messages in a Teams conversation to come back to them more easily later (student question, activity instruction).
Communication – Pin important messages Pin the messages you want to keep visible for your students (example: date of the evaluation, calendar of hours of online permanence, schedule of sessions, etc. )
Communication – Private chat Use the “Private chat” to communicate with a student in private (accompaniment of a dissertation, summons, consultation at the request of the student, etc.)
Resources – Sharing To share a resource with students, upload it to the “Class Materials” folder to prevent a student from modifying or deleting it by mistake. It is a copy of the original resource.
Resources – Modification If the resource requires continuous modification, share the link to this document. Thus, any changes made to the initial document will be viewable via the shared link as well.
In session – List of participants Download the list of session participants before the end of the session by clicking on … of the Participants option and selecting “Download Attendee List”. (Video tutorial)
In session – Assigning roles Assign the role of participants (Attendee) to students when scheduling the session or at the time of the session by clicking on … from the Participant option, then “Manage permissions”. In the page that opens, opt for “Only me” for the “Who can present” option. (Tutorial video)
In session – Title When recording the session, name the session to make it easier to consult later (example Session 1 of January 14, etc.)
In session – Disable microphones It is possible to impose the deactivation of the microphones of the participants by clicking on … of the Participants option and selecting “Don’t Allow attendees to unmute”.
In session – Scheduling sessions on Outlook’s “Calendar” It is possible to schedule sessions on Teams using advance from the “Calendar” of Outlook (the Calendar option is still not accessible directly from Teams). (Tutorial video)
Collaboration and co-editing – Out of class Have students work in groups outside of class by creating private channels (asynchronous group work). (Video Tutorial)
Collaboration and co-editing Invite students to collaborate and co-edit the same Office 365 document (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) by creating it directly in your Teams (Files –> New document)
Collaboration and co-editing – Follow-up Track student participation on a collaborative document by consulting the versions of the document in question. To do this, open this document in SharePoint and choose the “Check Versions” option.
Collaboration and co-editing – During the session Make students work in groups during sessions using the “Breakout Rooms” now available on Teams. (Tutorial video)
Collaboration and co-editing – Whiteboard Use the Whiteboard to brainstorm together, collaborate and give feedback
Feedback Create an immediate and real-time poll (Poll) to test students' acquisition of concepts (synchronously during the session) by clicking on “Forms ” in the “Chat” column of the meeting.
Feedback Launch a poll, asynchronously, to collect feedback or rate the session, and this from a new message in the team's own channel.
Feedback – Assignment Use the rubrics tool when creating an assignment to develop and distribute customizable, reusable rubrics that students can reference. Refer to them later for evaluating student work.
Users Control what participants can do in Teams by editing the permissions in “Members Permission“.
Analysis Activate the “Insights” tool for better monitoring of student activities. This analysis tool can be activated at the level of all TEAMS spaces or in a specific TEAM space.
Annotation – Whiteboard Enable Whiteboard features to make it easier to draw geometric shapes
