Mission, Vision and Values

The mission, vision and values of the New Educational Technologies Unit (UNTE) of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ) are defined in its statutes. They revolve around two main dimensions, the development and pooling of digital education, to which is added a third dimension, which is the provision of support and service to the community in innovative E-Learning projects.

Mission

The New Educational Technologies Unit’s mission is to develop and pool digital education at the University. It supports teacher-researchers in digital education and implements training systems based on educational technologies to achieve their objectives, solve the difficulties encountered and explore innovative solutions. In addition to teacher training, the UNTE meets the needs of university institutions or educational institutions, public, NGOs, cultural missions in Lebanon and the Arab world, in terms of educational technologies by offering consultations or solutions.

The mission of the New Educational Technologies Unit revolves around 4 main axes to support innovation and digital transformation:

  1. Formulates a strategic institutional techno-pedagogical vision
  2. The UNTE participates in the development of digital educational policy and innovative educational strategies of the University in order to formulate an institutional vision which ensures the realization of innovative digital educational projects.

  3. Promotes the educational use of digital technology
  4. The UNTE aims for the excellence of each member of the educational community by encouraging them to advance at the pedagogical-digital level. It organizes training and workshops to exchange practices, thus promoting the educational use of digital technology and the production of digital educational resources.

  5. Develops a digital environment conducive to teaching and learning
  6. The UNTE, through its services, support and training aims to offer a rational approach to the use of educational technologies with a focus on educational performance and sustainability. The tools offered are easily accessible, both technically and in terms of skills, and allow the creation of useful and effective interactive teaching activities. It is in this sense that the UNTE participates in developing an environment conducive to teaching and learning. Furthermore, the UNTE designs interactive applications, blogs, websites or virtual communities.

  7. Plays a role at the national, regional and international level
  8. The UNTE seeks to play a leading role in the evolution of the Lebanese education system by responding to the necessary national educational needs. It also endeavors to contribute to improving the educational world at the regional and international levels.

Vision

Aligning with the vision of the University which promotes excellence and quality in its university education, the UNTE, created in March 2005, aims to support academic and techno-pedagogical excellence, to promote the advancement of the University, strengthen the use of digital education in all its forms and encourage innovation and digital transformation in teaching, learning and research in order to allow all actors to access online education.

Components of the vision

The UNTE’s vision statement is represented by the following:

  • Develop and pool digital education at Saint-Joseph University in Beirut.
  • Promote the establishment of a digital environment conducive to studies, innovation and research.
  • Prioritize the support of teachers and researchers in their use of educational technologies according to their strategic interests.
  • Set up collaborative tools for designing digital content for teachers and university researchers.
  • Support and participate in individual and collective research projects.
  • Create partnerships to support the University's openness policy at the national, regional and international levels.

Values

The UNTE aims to develop the following values among its public in line with the University’s identity:

  • Promote digital education, innovation and digital research in the service of academic excellence.
  • Serving society to make learning accessible to all students.
  • Maintain Openness at national, regional and international levels.
